Remembering Dave Kemmerling

It is very sad to announce the passing of a dear friend of Vision Quest Photo Workshops, Dave Kemmerling. Dave died last Tuesday July 20th, 2010 at the age of 50 after a long battle with depression.

He was our male model at numerous workshops including at least 4 of our annual Dramatic Portrait: People and Nudes in the Badlands in South Dakota as well as in Door Co, WI and recently at the the Mpls Photo Center in Minnesota.

Dave was very passionate with all he approached in life. He had an admirable sense of integrity and full commitment to anything that he chose to take on.

His obituary and details of his memorial service on Tuesday afternoon July 26 can be found in the Star Tribune.

May you finally rest in peace. You will be missed.

  1. I met Dave at the Badlands workshop this year (2010). He was a great model and a great guy. He's very helpful to the photgraphers, too. He will be missed. Peace, Dave.

  2. if i had known the trouble you were bearing, what griefs were in the silence of your face i would have been more gentle, and more caring and tried to give you gladness for a space. i would have brought more warmth into the place...if i had ...known.. if i had known i what thoughts despairing drew you i would have lent a little friendship to you and slipped my hand within your hand and made your stay more pleasant in the land... if i had known...(author unknown)
    we never know.

  3. A couple weeks ago we were working together, photographing a bicycle ride along Medina Road, he had so much passion in him as he was with almost everything that he did. I enjoyed working with him so much, and learned so much from him in our collaborations. He always got me to think creatively when I was around him. A very special person, and such an observant one. So very sad that he is gone. But finally some peace for him. Your friends will miss you very much, and never forget you Dave. Our lives were enriched by you.
